Dunns of Sunderland were my very top, favourite distributors in a territory which stretched from the Humber to the Scottish border and well over a hundred Triumph outlets. The Service Manager at Roker Avenue, Arthur Jobling, was without a shadow of doubt, the best Service Manager I ever met and I’ve met hundreds! Brilliant bunch of people, Atholl and Eric Dunn, John Churchill and co. and all of their staff were the very best. If only I had had more dealers like them, my life would have been very much easier! Apologies for my lack of photos, but photography wasn’t as easy as it is today of course .Eric Dunn incidentally was a fighter pilot and flew Hurricanes against the Japanese in Burma. His aircraft was called “Ginga Dun”, a tribute to his auburn hair and a nice pun I think. The ten years or so that I worked this patch was without a doubt some of the happiest of my long working life which I am proud to say was evinced as an apprentice at the Daimler Motor Co in Coventry. I do hope some of this might be of interest, I’ve been a Triumph fanatic for far longer than I care to remember. So many wonderful memories of times and friends long gone by!

Best regards to all Triumph enthusiasts,

John Wheeler

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
