A G Boyes Co Ltd are the feature business in this post about Standard Triumph car dealers in the Huddersfield area.  The company was established in 1924.

According to an extract from Who's Who in the Motor Industry 1953 which is available on the graceguide.co.uk website A G Boyes Co Ltd were a car and commercial vehicle stockist.  The directors were A G Boyes M.I.M.I.S, S Thornton M.I.M.R.S and R S Hallas MBE.

In 1964 Leonard  Butters and his wife bought A.G. Boyes and  renamed it Boyes Garages.  The business folded in the late 1970s.

It was reported in the Standard Triumph Review of May 1965 that: Geoff Boycott, Yorkshire and England opening batsman, is canny enough to go to a Triumph Distributor for a new car and was also enough of a Yorkshireman to purchase the car before the Budget was announced. In the picture he is seen trying a Herald convertible when he went shopping at A G. Boyes & Co. Ltd., Standard-Triumph Distributors, Huddersfield, at the invitation of Mr. Leonard Butters, Managing Director. Mr. Butters met the England cricketer at a cricket dinner recently, and as a result Mr. Boycott visited the garage at Queensgate and tested many of the cars.

This A G Boyes Co Ltd invoice from 10 August 1966 shows that the directors at that time were Mr Leonard Butters, Mrs Joan Butters and J C M Smith.

This short post is about Hills Piccadilly Ltd a Standard Triumph car dealer in Manchester.

The earliest record I have is from a Standard Triumph dealer directory dated October 1955 - Hills Piccadilly Ltd, Port Street, 1. - Phone Central 4311.  By the time of the last record I have in March 1970 they listed as being at Tariff Street.

The business held several franchases.  At the time of the photo of their forecourt they were selling Citoen, Ford and Triumph cars.

I understand that the building was knocked down in 2014 and that there is now a car park on the site.

H Clifford & Sons Ltd of Nottingham - Triumph car dealer 72C

H Clifford & Sons Ltd of Chilwell Nottingham feature in this short  post about Standard Triumph car dealers in the Nottingham area.

H Clifford & Sons Ltd were based at Bramcote Avenue, Chilwell.  The business is no more.  The tall man in the photo is Herbert Clifford senior - founder of the business. Herbert Clifford junior his son is in the white coat.  According to Philip Clifford from whom I got these photos and much of the information to write this post the business ran from the 1950's until the 1990's.  They took on the Skoda franchise in the late 1960's after Standard Triumph ended their relationship with the firm.

Herbert Clifford senior was in the Royal Army Service Corps during the second world war.  After the war he started a haulage business which was taken over during the Nationalisation of the freight industry in the 19040's.  He then started a chauffeur driven service with 2 sons.  That developed into a general motor trade operation and eventually a Standard Triumph dealership in the 1950's.

H Clifford & Sons Ltd the company was incorporated 19 October 1951 and dissolved 26 August 1997.

Staff from Standard Triumph HQ visited the business and assisted with week long Show and Service promotion at Bramcote Avenue from 11 to 15 April1960.
