I have a lot of material about this business and will present it in several posts.   Herts Motors (St Albans) Ltd dealt Standard and Triumph cars over many years.  The business was taken over by Mann Egerton. Originally based on London Road St Albans they moved into new premises during 1964.

A liquidator was appointed to Herts Motors (St Albans) Limited on 19 November 1982.

When Herts Motors (St. Albans) Ltd, staged a special Christmas display in their showrooms they utilised a Standard Atlas and installed special lighting so that at night time there was the effect of a
continual snowfall.

Orchid delivery van

It was reported in the Standard Triumph review October 1963 issue:

Herts Motors (St. Albans) Ltd recently supplied a Standard 15 to Neville Orchids Ltd, a company with an expanding business as orchid growers at home and abroad, with nurseries at Glastonbury in Somerset.  There is a link between these two companies in that Mr. J. A. K. Hall is a director of both.

The first journey which the van made was to Hamburg for the LG.A. - the quinquennial international horticultural exhibition.  It was used to carry about £2,500 worth of orchid plants in flower. Leaving
Glastonbury on a Saturday morning, it was flown from Southend airport to Rotterdam in the evening. It arrived in Hamburg on Sunday afternoon after a pleasant journey through Holland and Germany. The van, painted in powder blue with navy blue lettering, attracted much attention, especially in Bremen, where admirers nearly caused a traffic jam.

At Hamburg, Neville Orchids Ltd. were the only English orchid exhibitors to be awarded a gold medal, and in addition they received two silver medals.

The Standard 15 van was modified before delivery to allow for two shelves across the whole floor area, and to facilitate travel abroad the roof ventilator was removed to bring down the height and a wire mesh screen was fixed between the cab and van to enable it to be sealed for customs purposes.
A heater for the van, interior loading light and reversing light were fitted.
