South London Motors of Streatham - Triumph Car Dealers 112

South London Motors were a Standard Triumph dealer whose principle place of business was at 512 to 522 High Road, Streatham.

The Steatham building

The business premises of South London Motors at 512 to 522 High Street were a prominent building. The site has now been redeveloped.

The old buildings were demolished.

A secure storage service business now operated from a new building on the site.

The Beckenham branch at 244 High St., Beckenham opened in 1932. From the Bromley Mercury January 20, 1932:

South London Motors Ltd, one of the most efficient and progressive car selling organisations in London have opened splendid new showrooms at 102~104 High Street, Beckenbam, near the Regal Cinema.

I think this photo is from some date not long after March 1933. There is display banner stating that the building was open by Sir Herbert Austin on 30 March 1933.

Multi franchise

In 1958 South London Motors were advertising that they were agents for the Ausin, Bedford, Ford, Jaguar, Morris, Riley, Rover, Standard, Triumph, Vauxhall and Wolseley.

Government Car Service

After South London Motors the Streatham building was used by the government car service. Cars for government ministers were maintained at the site.  I have read that the cars were also converted for government service. Extra security features and arm plating were fitted as needed.
