It was reported in the Standard Triumph Review of May 1965 that: Geoff Boycott, Yorkshire and England opening batsman, is canny enough to go to a Triumph Distributor for a new car and was also enough of a Yorkshireman to purchase the car before the Budget was announced. In the picture he is seen trying a Herald convertible when he went shopping at A G. Boyes & Co. Ltd., Standard-Triumph Distributors, Huddersfield, at the invitation of Mr. Leonard Butters, Managing Director. Mr. Butters met the England cricketer at a cricket dinner recently, and as a result Mr. Boycott visited the garage at Queensgate and tested many of the cars.

  1. I worked as a salesman at the Queensgate showroom in 1971/2. One half of the showroom displayed new Toledo, 1500,2000, 2.5pi, Dolomite, GT6, Spitfire, TR6, and the new Stag. The sales manager was the late David Willis who I believe went onto work at the Volvo garage. I remember the other salesmen called John Beevers, Rodney and Fred, I forget their surnames. Len Butters, his wife and Harry Atack who I think was a director at the time had offices above the sales offices. Godfrey Wormald ran the body shop. It was a fun garage to work for. Unfortunately the pay wasn't good and I was forced to leave 9 months later after a previous employer made an offer I couldn't refuse.
