F Norman & Sons (Worcester) Ltd, St. John's Garage held the Standard Triumph franchise over a period of years starting from the 1950's (I have them listed in a 1955 directory) until sometime after September 1968 and before March 1970.  For all that time P W Barker Ltd were the local distributor.

As can be seen in these photographs they also dealt with other brands of car including Hillman.

Carmichael & Sons (Worcester) Ltd - Triumph car dealers 26A

Carmichael & Sons (Worcester) Limited are the feature business of this post.  Probably better known as a coachbuilder the firm sold Standard Triumph cars from its premises on The Butts Worcester.  I have records of them as a car dealer from as early as 1955 through until at least March 1972.

The firm was started in 1849 as a coach building company by the Carmichael family.  They made vehicles for the farming market.  After the second world war they added fire fighting vehicles in 1947.   

It was reported in the Standard Triumph Review of October 1959:

Four Standard Ensign saloon cars have been added to the fleet of Travelways Taxis owned by Mr. A. Maiden and based on his premises at Five Ways, The Butts, Worcester.  The vehicles were supplied by Carmichael & Sons (Worcester) Limited of The Butts, Worcester, and constituted a repeat order to Travelways Taxis as a result ofthe Standard Ensigns in Mr. Maiden's fleet giving entire satisfaction.

Mr. Maiden states that he has to give special attention to the choosing of his vehicles as he has to consider the suitability of the car, its comfort, reliability and economy. The Standard Ensign saloon, with its robust body and roomy entrance, is ideally suited for this purpose and gives great satisfaction.

The company built bodies on other makers chassis.  Road tankers and fire engines were built in Worcester. Taken over by Trinity Holdings Group in 1992 which later changed its name to Mayflower Group.

This short article is about Clarendon Car Services Ltd of London and is number 75B in my continuing series about Standard Triumph car dealers.

Clarendon Car Services Ltd held the Standard Triumph franchise for many years.  They had showrooms at 89 Camden Road, London NW1.

Dealer address info

I have extracted what information I have from my collection of dealer directories.
1955 Clarendon Car Services Limited 89a Camden Road, NW1 9EY.
1959 listed as providing 24hr service
1965 first mention of 229a Camden Road as an additional address and shown as "main stanpart stockists London Metropolitan Area"
1969 no change both address and parts specialist
1974 at 85-89 Camden Road ONLY
May 1975 they are listed as being a Rover dealer as well Triumph.  I have no records to say when they first dealt with Rover cars.

Datsun Nissan dealer

According to a comment left of flickr I understand that the site 

Was a Datsun/Nissan dealer in the 80`s/90`s, cant remember if it was Dan Perkins or AFG.

Cliff Pope - I started work there in August 1970 The stag came along at the same time.I was 16 and a apprentice.worked there till 1978 over the years we did all the BL stuff.We used to have a 1910 Standard in the showroom which I think had been in family from new.Would love to find some pictures of it.We used to drain fuel tanks of new models before they appeared on tv from London Weekend Television.Being in Camden we had a lot of famous TV an Film stars as customers.Great to see that advert after all these years

Cliff Pope - Triumph Car dealers Yes you can.People I remember well was actress Billie Whitelaw I used to drive her home.Journalist Joan Bakewell she had a Vitesse. Rising damps Frances de la Tour Emergency 10s Bud Tingwell. I used to service the car from the film Clockwork Orange one of the crew bought if when the film was finished.As part of my apprenticeship I had to do time on the petrol pumps there I met Hawkwind the Rubettes and Peter Sellers in his specially made Mini.And Bob Hoskins used to drink in the pub around the corner we used lunchtimes Robin Stewart from Bless This House used to drink in there.

All gone

Both sites from which Clarendon Car Services Limited traded have been cleared and no trace of the business now remains.

Hollingdrake Automobile Co Ltd of Colwyn Bay feature in this post about Triumph car dealers.

Hollingdrake Automobile Co Ltd had branches in several towns in addition to Colwyn Bay including Manchester, Prestbury and its head office was in Stockport.

Hollingdrake Automobile Co. Ltd, Colwyn Bay, supplied Triumph Heralds for V.I.P.'s during Colwyn Bay's Holiday Procession in 1961.

This photograph shows Alfie Bass and Bill Fraser (Bootsie and Snudge), popular television personalities at the time, seated on the tonneau cover of a Herald convertible. Also in the picture is Mr. W. Womar, 'Manager of Hollingdrakes, Colwyn Bay.

Avenue Car Sales had showrooms at 14 Regency Parade, Swiss Cottage, London NW3 and Service & Spares department at 8 Lambolle Place, Eton Avenue. By 1970 they were also selling Volvo cars.

I have them listed from August 1961 until March 1970 as Avenue Car Repairs Ltd, Eton Garage, Eton Avenue NW3 In March 1972 they appear as Avenue Car Sales Ltd and are not listed in March 1974.

Avenue Car Sales Ltd started in business 25 August 1959. 15 May 1989 saw the company change its articles of association to become a property management company rather than a car dealer.

Google street view what the site looked like in 2017 after the business on the site ceased trading.  Towards the end of its time a hand car wash operated from the site..

J A Ferrington (Mostin) Ltd are first listed in October 1955.  In September 1968 the business is listed both as J A Ferrington (Mostin) Ltd and Co-Op Garage C.R.S. Ltd.  After that the CO OP is listed in March 1970, 1972 and 1974.  By May 1975 they are no longer listed.

Stars go shopping

Dora Bryan and Al Read, stars of the 1959 Christmas Show at Manchester Opera House, spent some time going the rounds of the Manchester shopping centres. Among their visits was one to J. A. Ferrington (Moston) Ltd., Blackley, Standard-Triumph Dealers, where they were shown the range of Standard-Triumph cars by Mr. J. H. Ferrington and his sister Mrs. Hilda Cook.

Our photograph shows them with a Standard Vanguard and a Triumph Herald with number plates appropriate to their names, AR1 and DB1.

Heralds on parade

It was reported in the Standard Triumph Review April 1965.

No, it isn't all done by mirrors! The nine cars neatly lined up are the latest Heralds to join the fleet of Andersons (Tobacconists) Ltd., of Reddish, Stockport. They were pictured outside the premises of the suppliers, Paramount Garages, a member of the Hollingdrake Group, as they were handed over to their new owners.
