The building that was Cowler's Central Garage have been demolished and the site is now residential.

I have a record of the business as being listed as Triumph dealer for many years from sometime before October 1955 through until sometime after May 1975.
  
In April 1979 they are  listed as a Leycare Service outlet but not as a new car dealer.

In March 1988 they are listed as an AustinRover service centre. 

In May 1991 they are listed as an Rover Group service centre.

Stubberfields Garage, St Leonards - Triumph car dealers 107

This post is about Triumph car dealers in the towns St Leonards-on-Sea and Hastings in Sussex UK.  Stubberfields Garage Ltd sold and serviced Standard Triumph cars in St Leonards-on-Sea and Hastings for many years. They operated out of premises on Sedlescombe Road North.

I understand that the garage building is currently being used by Kileys Carpets.

For a period of time the business was a Lancia car dealer. I have seen adverts from 1978.

Quantock Motors Ltd of Swindon - Triumph car dealers 106

This post is about Triumph car dealers in the town of Swindon in Wiltshire UK. Quantock Motors Ltd sold and serviced Standard Triumph cars in Swindon for many years  The business started out based on Devizes Road operating from a site that earlier was owned and operated by another business.

The Motor Engineering Company poses for the camera outside its Devizes Road premises of around 1910. The building remained in the trade, and later became Quantock Motors. It is now commercial
premises, and the gap next door in the top picture has long been occupied by a series of restaurants.

Halifax UK - Triumph car dealers 105

This short post is about the garages that sold and serviced Standard Triumph vehicles in Halifax, Yorkshire UK.

Central Garage (Halifax) Ltd

In October 1958 a business called Central Garages (Halifax) Ltd were operating from 89 King Cross Road and were the area distributors for Standard Triumph. Do you know if this business was taken over by H J Car Sales?

At the time this photo was taken the firm were dealing with Standard cars, Morris Commercials and Riley cars. Central Garage (Halifax) Ltd., 89 King Cross Street at its junction with West Parade. I understand that the building was demolished to make way for the A58 town centre bypass.

Later on H J Cars Sales traded out of the same building as Central Garage (Halifax) Ltd.  At the time this photo was taken the firm were also dealing with Singer cars.

Boyes Garages (Halifax) Ltd

Boyes ran several branches I have written about Boyes of Huddefield in a previous post.

Hoffmans of Halifax

Hoffmans were a chain of garages that sold Rolls Royce motor cars.  I have written about Hoffmans of Sheffield in the past.

In 1936 a public company was formed to acquire the Provincial Tramways Co[1].  Subsquently that business acquired Hoffmans of Halifax and Hoffmans of Sheffield in 1958.

Oakwell Garage of Ilkeston - Triumph car dealer 104

Several garages sold and serviced Triumph cars in Ilkeston.  Two of the garage buildings were known as Oakwell Garage and later New Oakwell Garage. of Ilkeston.

This street scene is said to be from 1964 and shows the corner of Oakwell Garage looking down Park Road away from White Lion square.  At this stage the business was operated by the Ilkeston Co-operative Society. These building were demolished to make way for an inner relief road.

MOT garage

I have read that Bristol Street Motor traded from New Oakwell Garage, Derby Road, Ilkeston but strangely the postcode used by them was DE7 5FH rather than DE7 5GS.  Was this same site or did the business transfer the building name?

Sunwin Motors another MOT provider also traded from the DE7 5FH premises.

A Co-op garage

New Oakwell Garage was an Austin Morris and Rover Triumph dealer during the BL cars era. It was owned and operated by the Ilkeston Co-op.

Ilkeston Co-op owned several car dealerships over the years. Ilkeston Co-op sold its car retail business to United Co-operatives in 2004.
